How do I prepare for a Reiki session?

If possible, try to eat a light meal beforehand and limit caffeine for a few hours before your session. Wearing comfortable, non-restrictive clothing can also help you settle in more easily.

That’s all that’s needed. You don’t need to do anything special or arrive in a particular state. Just come as you are.

What happens during a Reiki Session?

When you arrive, you’ll be welcomed and offered water. If it’s your first session, you’ll be asked to complete a short intake form. We’ll review it together, and I may ask a few clarifying questions if needed.

You’ll then lie on a Reiki table (similar to a massage table), fully clothed. I’ll take a moment to prepare for the session and invite you to settle in with a few slow, deep belly breaths.

During the session, I move my hands either slightly above the body or with very light contact, working intuitively or systematically. People experience Reiki in different ways. Some notice sensations such as warmth, tingling, images, colours, or emotional responses, while others simply feel deeply relaxed. All of these experiences are considered normal.

Some people like to talk during a session, while others prefer silence. Both are perfectly welcome. You guide how much conversation happens.

I’m here to help guide you through whatever arises and to offer context or reflection if you’d like to talk about what you noticed. Reiki is a supportive practice, but it is not diagnostic or a substitute for medical care.

At the end of the session, I often use a drum or a Tibetan bowl to help with grounding before you return to your day.

What should I do after a Reiki Session?

Be kind and gentle to yourself. Drink plenty of water, and try to rest after the session. People report feeling very sleepy or really energetic after a session. It varies session from session for people.  I will often use sound at the end of the session to help ground people.

What might I feel during or after a session?

People's experiences while receiving Reiki vary. You may feel tingles, see colours, pressure, warmth, cold, or see images. It is also common for emotions to surface. Some might not feel anything at all. That's normal too. Just notice how you feel in the days following.

How many sessions do people usually need.

There’s no fixed number of sessions. Many people find that one session offers insight or relief, while longer-standing or layered issues often benefit from a series of sessions. You’re always invited to listen to your own body, mind, and sense of what feels supportive.

Can a Reiki session be covered by benefits?

It depends. Check with your benefits provider to see if your session can be covered by a flexible health-spending plan or work benefits for personal wellness activities, such as meditation and Reiki.
